Last spring, I was invited to a Web cast with Peter Walsh & Office Max, I recently had an opportunity to join in on another web cast, “Get Organized with Back to School,” which is very timely as my kids just started school this last week and I never feel organized enough.
Organization at home will reduce stress as clutter makes it difficult to study and painful for parents. We don’t have enough space in our home for a dedicated desk for each child so our kids use the kitchen table. Peter Walsh stresses using the right tools but not to go out and buy a bunch of organizing supplies right off but to get a vision of what you want before you buy the things you need.
Some of the best tips from the web cast for organizing your child:
- Show that you value organization.
- Establish clear limits and clear routines.
- Completing the cycle. Make sure the child/you finish a task.

In addition to this fabulous web cast, we were sent some school supplies from OfficeMax’s kid-centric line, Schoolio-Von-Hoolio. My daughter, who is entering middle school was thrilled with the design/colors of these items which range from 99 cents to $5.99. These are available in Office Max stores. I wasn’t able to find them online.
Overall, Peter Walsh has done it again with his organizing and motivation tips and I’ve started decluttering our spaces a little more. It was also helpful to have a parent, student, and teacher’s perspective on organization for Back to School.
Just remember limits & routines and setting examples of a good organization for your child.

Love the tips and the goodies!
I think all you tips are great! I always forget something when school starts, it is so important to teach clear limits and routine. My kids are always there to remind me of something I forgot, their memories are great!
Great tips. My kids too have to use the kitchen table. I try to keep supplies in the cabinet, but they seem to disappear.
II love this package ! What a neat way to organize.
I am super anal retentive when it comes to organizing and it has been very frustrating that I can not get my kids to put a single thing back where it goes. I have tried every trick in the book, but so far no go. I am hoping with some patience and consistency they will get with the program
I love Peter Walsh and all his tips. I have a very hard time with clutter and wish I could offer a better environment for my kids. Great tips for getting ready to go back to school.
Looks like so much fun. What a great way to make organizing enjoyable. Thanks for the tips!
I am totally lost without a list! My 14 year old keeps me on my toes as far as staying organized. He doesn’t miss a trick and makes sure I don’t either.
Thanks for the great tips! My daughter also looks the look and colors of these school supplies!
My 10-year old daughter would love to have these. She needs some help with staying organized and would love the cool colors & prints!!
These are super cool and would be very helpful to keep the kids organized during their day at school! My teenage daughter is very forgetful, and seems to lose important papers all the time!! At home, we keep a big calendar and bulletin board/white board to put all important papers and schedules the kids get from school during the first few weeks. It really helps to keep track of what they need to prepare for each day, and we go back to this board all year long for information.
I *heart* cute school supplies. I’ve already been drooling over these in store.
Cherie´s last blog ..Three Things Thursday: Happy Birthday to Us!
We use the kitchen table too. It is right by our launch pad area (otherwise known as paper central) and the calendar. Keeping everything close together means it’s more likely to get done (at least for me!)
I love all of Peter Walsh’s organizational tools & have been trying to slowing organize, as he has recommended, rather than doing it all at one time.
Thanks for sharing your useful tips! It’s wonderful to get/stay organized
wonderful tips, thanks
I like the tips about how you need to set a good example to your kids about organization. If they see you are organized they will be much more likely to want to be like the parents and stay organized too. A lot of good tips here.
I am the queen of organization! I have my daughter lay out her school clothes the night before. We label everything that goes to school. I would label the kid if she would let me! Lastly, I make up check lists for her to carry in her folder to ensure that she remembers what needs to come home for homework.
I loved your review and we TOO use the kitchen table for study homework etc. Great job! thanks
