Experts disagree as to whether children even need a daily multivitamin. It is suggested you check with your own doctor before starting a daily multivitamin regiment for your children. Even if you think your child isn’t getting enough vitamins and minerals, sometimes they are getting what they need since so many foods are fortified with extra vitamins and minerals.
Now that I have that out of the way, we recently had the opportunity to check out the new Emergen-C Kidz. Emergen-C Kidz is a fun, fizzy, flavor packet loaded with 24 vitamins and nutrients to add to water. It comes in three different varieties: Strawanaberry Blast, Orange Pineapple Explosion, and Cherry Yumberry.
“Is that those nasty fun things?” This is the mixed reaction I received tonight from one my children when I decided to give these a second go around. Obviously, he thought they were fun but didn’t really like the taste. The first time I used 6 oz. of water. This time we tried 4 oz. Adding the minimum amount of water made these bearable. My 10 year old daughter thought they were “ok” but tasted “mediciny.” It is not something they would ever beg me to buy.
Their do have their perks. The fizziness does make them fun. Each packet contains 250mg real fruit juice powder and not artificial flavors. Include choline to support healthy brain function. Includes antioxidants and nutrients like Vitamin C, Beta Carotene, Vitamin E, Zinc, and Iron. They also contain 500 mg of Vitamin C, which is more than the leading brands. However, these perks can not make your child like these.
Sadly, this is a product I can not recommend especially when prices start at $12.99. At this point, we will stick to regular chewable vitamins that we use sporadically. Note: I have read on the message boards these are a little more tasty with 7up or Cherry 7up – but that kind of defeats the purpose of a healthy product, right?
(Thanks, She Speaks for the opportunity to try this out!)
