Strawberry Shortcake brings back fond childhood memories for me. You see, I was a child in the 80s when Strawberry Shortcake was at her peak. Shhh…don’t tell but I had Strawberry Shortcake wall paper and sheets. So bringing back this retro lovable doll is a wonderful welcome in my household.

My youngest daughter was so excited to open the package which contained the DVD, Strawberry Shortcake: The Sky’s the Limit. She was excited because she has that yellow haired girl and ran upstairs to get her. See, mom, I have that girl. At the Blogher conference this summer, I attended one of the “Mommy” panels, which was sponsored by Strawberry Shortcake and we received little gift packs that included two Strawberry Shortcake dolls.

Eli, who is five, was not thrilled. However, once we started playing the DVD, he came out with quite a funny comment. It was funny especially after his complaining about having to watch what he considers a “girl” show. I could tell he was trying to find something positive because his little sister was so excited. You see, she watches all of the alien creature shows with him so it was her turn.

“They are really good singers,” Eli told us matter of factly almost surprised with himself.  So this is what he came up with up in the opening act that could find that he liked about the show. I’m proud that he found something positive to share with us.

Now for Sofia, this is the greatest movie ever. As a mom and former original Strawberry Shortcake lover, I have to agree. This movie teaches valuable lessons about having good friends and how if you work together, “berry magical” things can happen!

Delgo, a fantastically animated adventure has just recently been released on DVD. Combine a forgotten enemy, a forbidden romance and you get a fanastic adventure. In the first independent film by Fathom Studios, you will see culturally different people in this fantasy land working for the common good.

I love animated films and this one did not disappoint – it has very beautiful animation. Delgo also includes a Star Studded cast and the voices of the characters were crafted around the specific character.

You will enjoy the deep booming voice of Michael Clarke Duncan as well as Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Anne Bancroft, Chris Kattan, Val Kimer, Lou Gossett Jr., Kelly Ripa, Burt Reynolds, and Sally Kellerman.

You and your kids will enjoy this 90 minutes of adventure and humor!

So, I’m not really chick flick type of girl. I like action, suspense, and mystery. The trailer for the movie, Taken, had me charged. Every time the trailer would come on, I would say I HAVE TO SEE THAT MOVIE.

After watching it, the movie did not disappoint. The beginning of the movie appeals to woman in a way that will help us understand why Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) would go to such extremes to find his kidnapped daughter. Estranged from her from years, he recently retired from his CIA job, which had kept him away from home for years at a time. Reluctantly, he allows his 17 year old daughter to travel to Europe with a friend. (Seriously, though, who in their right mind would allow a 17 year old to travel internationally?)

Arriving in Paris, the two teenagers act very immature with no regard for stranger danger. Within just a few minutes of arriving at their destination, they are abducted. Relying on his special skills from his time in the CIA, Neeson tracks down her Albanian sex trafficker abductors. Neeson IS the movie. Wheras, a lessor action star with no acting skills would make this movie seem cheesy due to some of the absurdities in the plot line, Neeson gives credibility to the role.

This movie is not for the faint hearted and while I like to watch action, there were times when I cringed and had to close my eyes. Most of the movie was set and filmed in Paris, France, I felt engaged in this movie and on the edge of my seat the whole time. While some of the plotlines are far fetched, overall I left this movie entertained and strengthened my belief that you can’t trust teenagers!

With the violence in the movie, I do not recommend this movie for children.
