Zhu Zhu Pets: Hamsters without the mess

Zhu Zhu Pets

Before I left for BlogHer last month, Mom Select sent over a new playset for my kids to enjoy while I was gone called Zhu Zhu Pets. Basically, Zhu Zhu Pets is a hamster playset without having a real hamster to deal with. It was an instant hit with all of my kids. To hear my oldest daughter, who is eleven years old, giggle about a t0y, made me giggle.

Zhu Zhu Pets picturesZhu Zhu Pets is a set of interconnecting play sets. You can add on more sets as you build your hamster play ground. Once you connect your sets, you simple turn on your hamster and let him go or “let him be” as my daughter says. The kids have named our hamster “Bugsy.”

Its much easier to understand just by watching:

Since these pictures and video, we’ve added a few more sets to our collection. It really is fun and since I will never allow my kids to have any pets in the house even a fish, this is the closest they will get to the real thing!

Thanks for posting that video. It was nice to see real children playing with the Zhu Zhu pets, and not paid actors. I have a feeling that these are going to be a HUGE hit this Christmas!

I am not a huge fan of real pets either. My kids will probably get a dog eventually but in the meantime Zhu Zhu Pets look like they would be a lot of fun for them.

These look great! Especially for people like those in our situation, moving around a great deal (including overseas). It lets the kids have the fun of a pet when circumstances don’t allow us to have a ‘real’ one!

I love the look of these “pets” for a few reasons!

No mess.
No feeding.
No cage cleaning.
No biting (hamsters bite alot!).
and finally, my small child wont accidentally “love” the animal too hard or too roughly.

Briana~ A year ago My daughter wanted a hamster or a guine pig for Christmas, but my niece had one and it kept getting out of it’s cage and my sister-in law would find it in her drawer of clothes and freak her out! Then my sister in law wanted to get it for her for Christmas and I said “NO WAY!”. But, maybe this Christmas I will have to let her get my daughter a hamster:)

Very cute idea! Love your website…very informative.

Just this morning my 9yr old daughter Alexis was playing with a stuffed hamster and asked for a real one! I told her we don’t have the time to devote to another real live animal with 2 dogs and a rabbit. This would be the perfect solution for her and I am sure would thrill my 5yr old daughter Sydnee and my 17mo old daughter MaKensay. I love the fact that there is no bedding or food to buy, no cage cleaning, and no constant checking to see if the hamster has food or water. OH this would be great!

I love these – they look like tons of fun. They seem perfect for kids with allergies, or for parents who don’t want to clean a cage!

My little negotiators (ages 2 and 4) have begged for a dog. However, my 4 year-old saw the commercial for the Zhu Zhu pets and decided that would be just as good as a dog.
My 2 year-old agreed. Single working mom says “Thank God for Zhu Zhu!”.

My daughter is definitely too young to have a real hamster, (because mom is not up for cleaning the cage) so this sounds like such a perfect substitute. I had hamsters growing up – I remember really liking them & now I wonder why? Their names were Dumptruck (Dumpy) 1 + 2, and my sister named hers Herman. :-)

I love this idea! I dislike rodents and my kids are always asking for a hamster so this looks like something I would handle– especially if there is no cage to clean.

We have a cat and dog, so a real hamster would not be a great option for us!! But my son would really like a hamster, so this is a great alternative!!!

The Zhu Zhu pets are absolutely unique. My grandkids could spend hours playing with them. They have wanted them every since they saw the commercial on tv. Of course not having to deal with the mess of a real hamster is also a plus.

My 8 year old has been begging for a hamster .. but I can not bring in any more pets into our house hold.. these seem amazing!! He’d have a hamster and I wouldn’t have to feed or clean up after it! I know this will be on the “Santa List”

I think these would help my autistic son work on his responsibility skills; then maybe he can get a real one later. Even though his older sister tells him they are for girls, he still says he wants them everytime he sees the commercial.

I think these are a great idea for little kids. My little boy says he wants them every time he sees the commercial and when we make a walmart run hes always looking for them. This would be a great surpise for him.
thanks,
Melinda

Just found out about this toy thru your site and it looks so neat. I’m going to have to get it for grandkids. At 4 and 2, I just don’t think they are ready for the real thing and Mom and Dad don’t want any little creatures to take care of – and neither do I. This toy set is perfect for me to keep at my house for them. Thanks so much for this great review and getting the word out.

When I first heard about this, I really had no clue what a Zhu Zhu because to me, there is a province in China called ZhuZhu (pronounced JoeJoe) so I was a bit leery how a toy was called this!! I know my 2 girls would love this new toy because we have a cat named Gershwin and I’m sure they would would to share it with their pet cat ;~D… a little sense of humor of mine, but I think they would share! I think this would be a nice addition to my family and I know I don’t have to worry in cleaning up after him at all! Just the toy to be placed in the toy chest :D ….!!! LOVE IT!
